The Plumbing systems of your home, delivers the cold and hot water that is available for the faucets at your sinks, tubs, showers, and washing machine.

Your Plumbing system also includes the drains and the vent piping for these drains, which allow waste water to flow away from your home.

In some homes, the water supply for the Plumbing system comes from municipal water sources, and for some homes, the water supply comes from private wells.

In some homes, the waste water leaving the home goes into a municipal sewer system.  For some homes, the waste water is treated on the property in a private Septic System.

Over time, drain pipes tend to clog with sediments.  Also over time valves and fittings can begin to wear and develop leaks.  Small leaks can quickly become big leaks and cause major water damage.  Discount Rooter can help you with drain issues.

Sump Pump

A sump pump typically is located in a basement, and it is a pump used to remove drainage water that has accumulated in a collection basin.  The water commonly enters the collection basin from the perimeter drains of a basement waterproofing system.  The source of the water can be either surface rainwater, or it can be groundwater if the basement is below the water table level.

The way an automatic sump pump works is that when the water level rises, it pushes up a float that turns on the pump motor.  As the water is pumped out and the float drops down, the pump motor automatically shuts off.  Some sump pump systems have a backup battery so that the sump pump will still operate during a power failure.

Another type of sump pump can be for toilets and plumbing which are located below the level where the plumbing drainage pipe leaves your home.  Therefore, requires this wastewater to be pumped up to this higher level. When the sewer line level is above the basement floor, a sump pump is required for pumping the water up to the sewer line level.

A Water Heater heats up the water that is used in the plumbing for your sinks, baths, and showers.  A Water Heater is different than a Furnace or Boiler, which are part of the central heating system for your home.

A ‘tankless’ system only heats the water when it is actually in need of hot water usage.  Whereas a Water Heater, (electric) heats up the water in advance, so it is available when it is needed.

Hot water heating is typically the third largest energy expense in a home, after space heating and cooling.  In addition, a water heater is a relatively an expensive appliance, and it operates under very severe conditions (high temperatures, and cycling on and off).  Proper maintenance can significantly improve the energy efficiency, service life, and safety of this appliance.
