What Our Customers Say About Us
What in the world is a sewage ejector pump? Most homeowners don’t know or have any need to know.
However, if your home has a bathroom below the level of your main sewer line, you must have a sewage ejector pump. Its purpose is to lift the sewage to the level of the sewer line so it can flow out of the house to the community sewer or a septic tank.
You may have a sewage ejector pump even if your bathroom is nearly level with the sewer line or septic tank, if the waste water cannot flow fast enough by gravity alone.
A sewage grinder pump is a variation on the sewage ejector pump. As its name implies, it uses a garbage disposal-type grinder (or macerator) to turn the effluent into a slurry before it is pumped out. While sewage grinder pumps are more expensive, they do greatly reduce the potential for clogs farther down the line
Unless you’re very familiar with these systems, replacing a sewage ejector pump is not a do-it-yourself project. Properly sizing the pump to meet your home’s plumbing is complex and it’s worth the expense to have a professional do the work and ensure it meets all local plumbing codes.
